Who is the Blogger?
My name is Mandy, I'm an all around Florida girl that loves the ocean. I grew up on the Gulf Coast and moved to West Palm Beach in 2015. In my professional life my resume is diverse ranging from Veterinary Medicine, Marine and Environmental Sciences, a public school teacher and I am now in the pharmaceutical industry. My brain hemispheres are evenly distributed, as I am a Science nerd with a strong creative side.
What is The Global Local?
A travel and lifestyle blog centralized around living globally and staying locally. The intent is to open my audience to new cultures, experiences, and viewpoints while staying in their own hometown. Essentially a "Global Local" is a person with a worldwide view, without migrating far from their zip code. Content of this blog is based out of Florida, as it is my account of backpacking my backyard.
How did it all start?
I was at wine night with my girlfriends one evening when I brewed the concept of this blog. My group of friends has become my own version of the United Nations: Jamaican, Cuban, Mexican, Russian, Haitian, Serbian, Brazilian, Chinese. Each one of them has become an ambassador for me to their unique culture. I am a wanderlusting fool that is too restricted by time and budget. I realized I could become the weekend warrior of world travel without going very far.
What can you expect to find here?
All good things. Accounts of cultural events, restaurants and festivals is the start of my blog. You can also expect to find narratives of ecotours, natural sites and a little Salty Science. From time to time, you may find a DIY to make your own global souvenirs, reviews on my favorite B Corporations and Fair Trade products. Of course, you will find artwork, photography and all kinds of visual feel goods.
